Fixed prosthodontics

Fixed prosthodontics is a treatment which restores lost teeth and is done according to the teeth size of each person. Each unit is cemented to their nature tooth that is previously prepared in order to be covered or "sheathed".

They are used for:

  • Restoring the parts of deteriorated teeth (covered o simple crowns)
  • Replace missing teeth, in this case the “false” (pontic) tooth/teeth replace the natural one, forming a continuous structure with the anchoring (abutment teeth).  Usually, the sleeves are located on both sides of the pontic, so that the structure resembles a bridge between two banks of a river (whose comparison have taken precisely the name of bridges), sometimes, however, a false tooth "is in the air" on one side, because it only grabs one or more teeth located on the other side, like a balcony projecting from the wall, and in this case we speak of extension bridge (cantilever).
